Citizenship...ahahahahaha

As we proceed throughout the course text we ran across a topic called citizenship that proved to be quite interesting. Citizenship in my own words has to deal with taking pride within your own community and willing to work at making it better. Often people get caught up in taking care of themselves and/or immediate people in their own personal lives. I admit everyone has their own personal struggles, but if we all could take some time out of our busy/hectic days just to spend a few hours trying to improve something within the community that would go along way. You are not only affecting change in someone else's life, but your own as well because you never know what particular experience you may come across in your efforts. Those few hours you spend getting lost in helping a greater cause could give you all the satisfaction and energy you need to tackle your own personal issues or concerns.

My fraternity...hahaha...yes Kappa Alpha Psi partakes in numerous community service events throughout the year, but I don't know if everybody individually is doing it for the same reasons. Some of us enjoy it while others do it because the chapter forces them. Nevertheless we uphold our civic responsibility to perform service because it is one of our 5 objectives. It basically comes down to being in a position to give back why not? A lot of us are going to graduate with a college education from THE Ohio State University with jobs lined up and a huge social network of individuals to call upon for assitance through the fraternity. Why not show some appreciation and give back to the community whether through mentoring (Guide Right Program/Kappa League) collecting/donating money for medical research (St. Jude Hospital) or something as simply as collecting toys for the make a wish foundation and helping serve food at the soup kitchen. The littlest things go a long way especially to the people you are assiting.

It is a shame that whenever a nice gesture is done people expect some kind of motive behind it, but through citizenship we can help change that mindset and help make it to the point that when you don't do something generous you feel bad like you committed a crime.

Back like cook crack lol

Hello to all...I know it has been a minute since my last post got a little caught up in life. Anyway I was in class last week ;-) ;-) and there was a panel discussion that discussed many important things concerning the Greek community. The panel was quite insightful if I do say so myself because they answered a lot of questions that people had concerning their own chapters. For me it was just crazy to see how many similarities different chapters have because it was like everybody had similar issues. I am apart of NPHC while some others are apart of the IFC n etc but at the end of the day we are all Greek, and by the end of the discussion that idea really hit home.

I think that is something that we often over look as a Greek community. We are apart of our different chapters and councils, but at the end of the day we are all still Greek and have many of the same goals and issues. After listening to people from different fraternities speak about things they want to do within the community or programs they want to put on, some of the ideas are similar to what my chapter discussed. More cross council collaborations should be encouraged because it would be a Greek look for the community to see our Greek life together and helping to break the stereotypes of Greek life.

Alot of the panel just spoke about their own personal experiences and was mainly just another voice of guidance to help us further the growth of our respected chapters. I found it interesting just listening and observing what all was being said. The main thing i found interesting was when Jordan said you find yourself when you lose yourself in trying to help others. That quote stuck out with me the most just because it makes you think about who you are as a person. You think you know yourself until presented with some sort of adversity. It was just interesting hearing that being said from a student versus some wise old adult.

Idk I really enjoyed the panel though. Wish I had it on tape to show my chapter.
